An ioLanche reader, John, sent us an email this morning of a video mashup featuring some of Bill Nye’s remarks from Nye’s recent debate with Ken Ham. Here’s what John had to say:
An interesting video of Bill Nye’s comments at the Ham/Nye debate surfaced on YouTube recently. Bill Nye repeatedly talked about the joys of scientific discovery, and how the biggest question we can answer is “where did we come from?” As a Christian (and one who also has a passion for science) it is quite frustrating to see someone come so close to the truth, yet miss it entirely. As Christians, we should also be actively discovering more about the magnificent universe God has created, fulfilling His charge to have dominion over creation. For us, though, the answer to the question “where did we come from?” is not the end goal, but the starting premise. “It is the glory of God to conceal things, but the glory of kings is to search things out.” -Prov 25:2
Also, for Bill Nye and others who refrain from acknowledging God in creation, perhaps a more valuable and appropriate question to ponder would be “where are we going?”
- What is the basis for Nye’s joy?
- What do you think Nye meant by his statement “we are… one of the ways that the universe knows itself”?
- What was before the Big Bang?
- Where did we come from?
- Where are we going?
